Borum Industries' new Linemaster controls the painting of lines, patterns and arrows on roads. The advanced computer is mounted on Borum's mobile line painting machine. the Linemaster system is designed to be operated in any weather, in any language and by roadworker who probably do not have any particular training. And with gloves on!!
The mobile printer iteself is equipped with different widths of large dot-matrix printer. This uses special marking paint fluid to form lines, dashes, patterns and arrows. The system can also apply sound patterns so that drivers can hear when the cross a line or drive off track.
The user interface of the Linemaster needed to be simple to operate and much attention was paid by DN interface designers and Borum's engineers in making the operation as fault free as possible.
"The Internet of Things" is a dynamic new concept of following our food, products, medicine, transport systems and logistics as they pass through each development stage. From biodynamic farm produce through the supermarket to our homes. From the factory through value chains to our homes and schools and offices.
Through each stage, the information about the item, its quality and its treatment is checked and scanned by products like these new TIOT 2000 and 9000 from Adlink Inc. This small very robust hand-held computer is equipped with barcode scanners, hidef camera and a range of 3G and wifi telecoms.
As a breakthrough, Adlink is now introducing the world's first Android professional mobile computer of this type. DN has designed the product to withstand the rigours of heavy industrial use - yet in a light, very ergonomic way with great user-friendliness.
The GMV WinLet 350 was a revolutionary piece of equipment, making the installation of windows and doors easier than ever before. Now GMV are expanding into the European and US markets with the big brother robot which can lift a half ton window or building element.
Once again DN has designed the machine on the principle of lean manufacture, allowing GMV to introduce the new robot quickly and at very competitive prices.
The newest experimental Small Electric Vehicle [SEV] developed by DN for AF Truck in Denmark has a unique steering system. Small but powerful electric motors are built into the wheels and the steering is controlled individually with a joystick. This allows the new SEV to rotate within its own length and even to drive sideways. This is ideal for use in hospitals, warehouses, airport and a wide range of applications.
The efficient electric motors are powered by lithium-ion batteries which give added range and performance. And of course when the truck goes down a hill, or brakes, the batteries and electrical system are recharged. Although the trtuck is experimental, the lessons learned are already being applied to other AF Truck products.
RTX Products have been at the forefront of telecom technology for decades. Designed by DN, the RTX "Forerunner Series" pioneered professional corded telephone systems for the worldwide professional market. Taking a lead from real user needs, the series includes combined solutions where fixed-line VoIP phones can be used together with cordless handsets for great flexibility and security.
Stormriders is the latest professional management game from market leader Elevated Aps in Denmark. Co-developed with DN, Stormriders is aimed at start-up companies and other innovative managers. The game is built around Christopher Columbus and his endeavours to reach India by sailing west.
Rather than concentrating on the actual voyage, Stormriders lets the game players follow and learn from Columbus as he raises capital from investors, gets Italian bankers' support, organises manpower and resources in Spain, carries out marketing and recruits business partners and agents. This game is a true and accurate lesson in European cooperation and globalization.
In the end, Columbus does not reach his goal of opening new trading routes to India. Instead he opens a new world. There are valuable lessons here for every business leader today.
Moving materials and goods around in our energy conscious world needs efficient and speedy control. CipherLab is one of Taiwan’s leading companies which build information devices that do just that.
Introduced in late 2009, their 9300 mobile computer not only remains the specified rugged feature, but also packs laser-reading, wireless communications features that it seems impossible to cram so much into the new ergonomic device. The large, bright screen with high readability and easy-to-use keypad moreover optimized the concept of use-friendliness.
But the features of the product itself are not the only point. What the CipherLab/DN partnership has achieved are management goals. By focusing on unique user requirements, the 9300 has been able to open more of Asia, European, American market. By combining the Double Value Design of fine product detailing with strategic market insight, the 9300 has given growth - where CipherLab's competitors are still struggling with the economic crisis.

Q System is a leading provider of handling systems for all areas of production - and for all lines of business. Through a series of user centered observations and systematic analysis of Q's current pallet dispenser, DN has assisted in the design and development of the new design. The new design has led to Q System developing a brand new stand-alone unit that runs on electrical power only, whereas the old used both electrical power and pressurised air. Maintenance has been greatly improved, making the all-new mechamics much more accesible.
As part of the 7+7 Project - a design program supported by the Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority - DN did an extensive analysis of Q System's now defunct pallet dispenser. By observing and interviewing current users and clients and documenting our findings using pictures, video and text, DN was able to expand and support Q System's own project specification and supply Q with a groundbreaking design. User centred design allows for both client and designers to obtain insights into the way users use and experience products and services.
Breakaway - the new Blue Ocean Strategy portable game. Co-developed with Elevated Aps in Denmark, Breakaway is strategic game for corporate planning at several levels. Based on the principle of learning by experimenting, the game beings together the various disciplines needed in any successful company. Breakaway has been proved invaluable at many levels and in different sizes of companies - from major European energy companies and banks to consumer electronics companies and business units in Asia Pacific.
DN conceived and designed the gaming board and designed the brand identity as well as the graphics for the cards.
Hiwin Microsystems is one of Asia's main manufacturers of linear actuators. This particular project developed new actuators for uses such as hospital beds and environments where ease of cleaning and maintenance is crucial. With this design, Hiwin also patented the design and the internal mechanism and was able to take a lead in this very competitive field.
The GMV WinLet 350 is a revolutionary piece of equipment, making the installation of windows and doors easier than ever before. By making one worker able to pick up, precisely place and mount glass assemblies up to 350 kg. The WinLet 350 is the easy way to streamline the work process and optimize the montage of building components.
DN helped GMV realizing both their vision of a new and better window robot, and designed also the interface and product logo. The total design package was made possible through a Venture Design™ contract.

Leading manufacturer of handheld barcode readers CipherLab came to DN for assistance on the development of their new 9400 rugged PDA barcode reader. The unit combines all today’s standards in one compact, wirelessly connected unit. The PDA has been designed for rough use in most fields, with a high resistance to bump, humidity, temperatures. Meanwhile with great ergonomics the all-day manipulation is made possible.
CipherLab and DN decided on a more intelligent than rugged look for the PDA. An extensive amount of rubber padding is needed to take the 1.5m drop tests, so integrating this into the design was quite a challenge. The solution was a sandwich build with big rubber bumpers on either side of the screen, adding both to the protection and grip of the delicate hardware.

Hearing problems in infants and small children greatly affect their development and speech. Otoread, a new test instrument from Interacoustics makes diagnosis and treatment so much easier - and the test is now standard in some western countries.
Care of the child and attention to the ergonomics of the user were the central themes in this design.
Checking auditory brain activity tells doctors whether a hearing loss is caused by a tumour or other problems on the signal path from the ear to the brain. Ecplise monitors this pathway and the brain’s response to help make a clear diagnosis.
The Eclipse is a classic black-box, packed with advanced electronics and software, designed into the pure classic geometry of Euclid at his best.
